The violoncello, or cello, is a bowed string instrument tuned in perfect fifths (C, G, D, A).

It forms an integral part of chamber, string and symphony orchestras as well as a staple of chamber ensembles and a popular solo instrument.

With its rich, warm tones, at times the cello sounds very like the human voice. The cello has nearly the same structure as the violin and a range of sizes from 1/8 to 4/4.
